If everybody’s jumping off a cliff, should you?

Okay, let’s start off with something light; a Dilbert comic strip!

(comic strip from 1999)

If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you respond with the same rebuttal? Share a rebuttal in your comment!

If I were young Dilbert, my argument would go something like this:

“If everyone jumped off a cliff, would you do that too?”

“No. But what does that have to do with skateboarding?”

“Well, you’re going based on the fact that everyone else is going.”

“No, I’m going because I think it’s fun, everyone else agrees, I think it’s safe, and everyone else agrees. In this case I am just using the fact that everyone else agrees with my argument to substantiate it even further. If everyone who skateboarded at the construction site died, then my argument would be contradicted by the evidence. But the current evidence supports the reason I’m going: it’s fun and safe.”

I think Scott Adams did better than me on this rebuttal. His reply was simple, concise, and brilliant. Like the rest of Dilbert.

By the way, I thought the previous theme was a bit simpler and easier on the eyes, but this one also has its own merits. Remember that it’s not really the layout but the content!

This format looks good. You might want to change the banner picture once in a while just to spice things up. :)

What are you thinking?
